From Dependence to Financial Self-Reliance: Tangaza University Is Building Its Own Endowment

On 25th and 26th August 2026, KCDF’s Founders, Advisory Council, Board, Trust, Adapo, Friends of KCDF US, and Management came together in Nairobi for the 2026 KCDF Entities Retreat. The gathering offered a valuable moment to pause and reflect on the milestones, achievements, and impact realised across KCDF’s entities over the past year, while charting a shared path forward.
Beyond reflection, the retreat created space for learning, governance review, and strengthened collaboration across entities. Members reviewed KCDF’s strategic priorities and performance, reaffirming a shared commitment to building flourishing and resilient communities.
Discussions centred on governance, asset management, investment strategies, and resource mobilisation, alongside programme performance and strategic priorities. A dedicated segment explored the implications of Artificial Intelligence for governance and organisational leadership, part of a broader effort to strengthen institutional effectiveness and future readiness. A practical session introduced members to AI-powered governance practice, the discipline of prompting AI effectively to achieve desired outputs, and the importance of using AI safely and responsibly.
Voices from the Community
A highlight of the retreat was the opportunity for four KCDF community partners, Miss Koch Kenya, Youth Agenda, Living Positive Kenya, and Timao Group, to share their work directly with the Board and Management. Miss Koch Kenya spoke to its focus on creative development among young people, while Youth Agenda shared more on their advocacy awork in Nairobi, while Living Positive Kenya shared stories and highlights from their programmes supporting underprivileged women, orphans and their families. Together, these presentations offered a ground-level view of KCDF’s impact and a powerful reminder of the communities at the heart of the organisation’s work.
KCDF also presented programme updates aligned to its strategic focus areas: Community-Led Development, Entrenching Philanthropy, and Enabling Environment. These presentations covered key achievements and challenges, as well as the risks and mitigation measures underpinning KCDF’s work in advancing social justice and sustainable community development.
Looking Ahead
The 2026 Entities Retreat reaffirmed KCDF’s commitment to strong governance, collaborative leadership, and continuous learning. As the organisation embraces new tools and approaches, including the responsible use of AI, it remains firmly anchored in its founding purpose: building the capacity of communities to drive their own development and thrive.
