Measuring What Matters: Key Insights from the Morocco Convening
March 23, 2025
On March 3rd and 4th, 2025, KCDF hosted a two-day CTGA refresher training for trainers of trainers, which gathered 20 participants. The training aimed to enhance the capacity of the CtGA ToTs to navigate the online training platform, empowering trainers to deliver hybrid training to organisations. The refresher was also to strengthen the capacity of trainers as coaches for organisations to support them in applying the skills they gained during the session.
Throughout the training, the trainers also honed their abilities to engage participants, ensure active participation during online sessions, promote higher retention, and encourage the implementation of learned skills within their organisations. In group discussions, trainers collaboratively explored how to organise training topics, structure procedures, and use effective questioning techniques to maintain participant interest and engagement.
During the event, Caesar Ngule, KCDF’s Programmes Director, applauded the trainers for their dedication and hard work. He encouraged them to continue strengthening the organisations they work with, particularly in resource mobilization. His message emphasised the importance of promoting local leadership and sustainability in the communities they serve.
One of the key highlights of the training was a session led by trainers Dr Tsuma Baruwa, and Susan Odongo, the CtGA Master trainers in Kenya, who emphasised the distinction between being a coach and being a trainer. They encouraged the participants to evolve into coaches, emphasising that proper coaches walk alongside the organisations they work with, helping them identify and address their unique challenges. They stressed that community organisations have immense creativity, resourcefulness, and potential for growth. His message resonated with the idea that the role of a trainer is not only to impart knowledge but to nurture self-sufficiency, innovation, and empowerment within the organisations they support.
The CTGA refresher training proved vital for equipping trainers with the skills and mindset necessary for implementing the CtGA program in Kenya and planning for 2025. KCDF is helping to create a more sustainable and empowered network of trainers and organisations by establishing a collaborative learning environment and emphasising the importance of coaching over traditional training.
As these trainers continue to develop their skills and embrace the evolving needs of the communities they serve, they are poised to drive long-term positive change in the sectors they support.
