Bringing Care Closer: How community investment is reshaping maternal health in Bungoma
August 19, 2026
Through the East Africa Financial Resilience Resource Hub (EAFRRH), which is a collaborative initiative implemented by a consortium comprising KCDF, CivFund-Africa (Uganda), and the Foundation for Civil Society (Tanzania), KCDF has supported Tangaza University’s Centre for Leadership and Management (CLM) to integrate financial sustainability into its leadership and governance training.
EAFRRH exists to respond to growing funding uncertainties and increasing regulatory demands facing civil society organisations across the region. It aims to strengthen their ability to survive, adapt, and grow by shifting from dependence on external funding to more diversified and locally grounded resource strategies.
The partnership between KCDF and Tangaza University has enabled CLM to equip civil society organisations, faith-based institutions, and Catholic organisations with practical skills in resource mobilisation, local fundraising, endowment building, and financial resilience, helping them reduce dependence on donor funding.
Beyond strengthening CLM’s training curriculum, KCDF’s support inspired the educational institution to establish its own endowment fund, held at KCDF, as a pathway to long-term sustainability. The initiative has already attracted its first contribution of USD 500 from partners in the United States. At the same time, annual local fundraising efforts continue to grow the fund and reinforce CLM’s commitment to self-reliance.
By embedding financial resilience into leadership development, KCDF is helping to build stronger, more sustainable institutions that can continue to serve their communities with greater confidence, accountability, and resilience, even in an evolving funding landscape.
