About KCDF

KCDF is a Kenyan Community Foundation that supports sustainable development of communities by ensuring that they are in the driver’s seat of their own development. One of the key thematic areas is Education, Youth and Children which aims to support innovative approaches to strengthening education access, retention, transition and improved learning outcomes for primary, secondary, tertiary and out of school youth. Since 1997, KCDF has sponsored young learners from disadvantaged backgrounds and transitioned over 800 students through high school and 700 students through various public universities and colleges. Additionally,

Aga Khan Sports Center, 5th Avenue, Limuru Road.

KCDF has incorporated life skills, ICT skills development, mentorship and community give-back to the programme. These sessions are intended to encourage the ethos of giving back to the community whose end goal is to have youth who are able to secure gainful employment or engage in entrepreneurship.

Some of the interventions in our education programmes include;

The KCDF girl-child education programme which is a comprehensive initiative that has been implemented for over nine years that transitions a girl from secondary through university/college education. These girls come from disadvantaged families and face numerous hardships including gender violence, early and forced marriages, female genital mutilation, lack of mentorship and many other disempowering situations. By addressing the challenges they encounter in a holistic way, and giving them an equal chance to compete and lead a fulfilled life, the programme enables them to gain the necessary skills and qualifications while being mentored and guided through their journey by mentors.

Inspired by the girls’ empowerment program that KCDF has implemented successfully over the last ten years, as a pilot, in 2012 KCDF started a boy’s mentorship programme with only 9 boys. Today there are 28 boys in the programme. The Foundation is committed to continuing to uplift both genders benefitting from this programme.

The vocational scholarship scheme is designed to respond to the needs of students who are overlooked and yet could benefit from vocational training. The scheme targets students from disadvantaged background but have an interest in pursuing vocational training to prepare for the job market or to enable run their own enterprises.

It is in this regard we would like you to join us in this exciting event dubbed “Dance Fitness Festival” Katika Fitness for Education where all proceeds will go towards our holistic education scholarship programme that transitions orphaned and vulnerable students through school. The event will take place on 28th July 2018 at Aga Khan Sports Center, 5th Avenue, Limuru Road from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon.
