 ANNUAL REPORT 2008/2009

Despite the difficulties associated with this period, KCDF was able to achieve its set targets. As part of our contribution to peace building and reconciliation initiatives, the organization identified strategic partners in the most affected regions (mainly Rift valley, Western and Nyanza) and provided grants support to the tune of US$270,000 dollars to support peace building and local economic recovery.

In addition, more than US$60,000 was given to communities to address food security challenges in the most affected regions of Eastern Province and Southern Rift valley. Overall, KCDF made a total of 123 grants to communities across Kenya and provided 235 scholarships.

EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT - KCDF BEST PRACTICES

KCDF recognizes the role played by Early Childhood Development (ECD) in community and national development because it not only improves the situation of young children but is also a sustainable development strategy, integral to overall community development.

The purpose of KCDF’s ECD programmes, therefore, is to strengthen grassroots community development groups and help them to design and manage sustainable programmes that address the holistic development of children below 8 years of age.

COMMUNITY PHILANTHROPY: THE JOURNEY OF KCDF'S PAMOJA 4 CHANGE PROJECT

KCDF coined the project Pamoja for Change (P4C) which essentially connotes a process of entrenching local giving by community members and other entities through coming together to resolve their development challenges.

This programme was well aligned to KCDF’s theory of change which seeks to put the communities at the heart of identifying their own development challenges and coming up with home grown solution including financial solutions to respond to the development need while seeking very little or no external help from outside their catchment. This has been a proven concept in KCDF’s perspectives of sustainable community development.
